Double Degree Special Program

In 2006, DDP was initiated in Shizuoka University and Warsaw University of Technology.
DDP is the program which enables the student to obtain two kinds of doctoral degrees which are conferred by Shizuoka University and home university.
DDP student enrolls in the both universities simultaneously and receive education and research guidance by supervisors in both universities.

Supervisors discuss the educational and research plan closely and give academic advice to DDP student.
DDP student will stay at each university in turn according to the research and education plan.

The total enrollment period of doctoral degree course is about four years or longer depending on each circumstance.
In this way DDP student will have a new home university (Shizuoka Univ. in Japan) as well as his home university in his home country.
It helps him/her to have valuable international experience and more chances of employment.

For enrollment as DDP student, the home university and Shizuoka University must have concluded not only University agreement but memorandum of DDP.
Moreover, your current supervisor and prospective supervisor in Shizuoka University must discuss the study and research plan prior to your application.

You need to meet these conditions to enroll as DDP.
But this program is, we believe, attractive for you, so please consult with your supervisor positively.

• Step 1
  Student “A” who is planning to enroll as DDP student enters in the doctoral course in his/her home university, B” is appointed as supervisor of “A”
• Step 2
  After discussion between A and B, they choose and contact the prospective supervisor “C” in Shizuoka University.
• Step 3
  “A” “B” and “C” reach agreement in the education and research plan prior to “A” ‘s application for DDP.

“A” submits the application to Shizuoka University and takes the entrance examination.
If “A” is admitted by Shizuoka University, “A” will be enrolled in both universities as DDP student simultaneously.
After admission, basically “A” will follow the model curriculum.
But the detail differs depending on each case.

For example, DDP curriculum between Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) and Shizuoka University (SU) is as follows.

“A”, a student of Warsaw University of Technology, spent one year in doctoral course at WUT and applied for DDP.

After his admission to DDP, “A” has received academic advice from both supervisors in WUT and SU.

After that, he came to SU, doing research and study for 2 years and then, come back to WUT and spend 1 year.

Degrees are conferred by both universities writing doctoral dissertations individually.
Specific educational plan is flexible according to each case but 4 years curriculum period is usually adopted as minimum.

DDP students submit monthly report to both supervisors and it helps them to share the information and make efficient guidance.

We are working on the expansion of DDP activities with IA community universities.
